Black History
Graphic Design Commission
For Black History Month 2021, Eric Isiah Media partnered with Chicago-based graphic designer Dominique Jimerson of Royelle Designs to collaborate on an experimental project. In including Jimerson, my goal was to commission a design that would go on to be marketed and sold via the currently inactive E.I. Media web store. After multiple brainstorming sessions and less than a week of labor, Jimerson's hand-drawn design – titled: 'We Can Not Stand Alone' – was sold via print-on-demand throughout the month of February. We leveraged social media and email marketing to continuously reach new customers, increasing sales steadily throughout the duration of the limited run. This so-called experiment enabled Dominique and I to reach a larger audience than either of us had been able to capture previously, while also allowing us to celebrate Black History Month through thought-provoking art. Best of all, we were able to fulfill our goal of spreading a message of unity and peace.
